Starting College

For the past few years I haven’t been sure of exactly what I wanted to do with my future. I knew a few of my interests but nothing seemed to be what I saw myself doing for the rest of my life. Part of me wanted to pursue something art related, being a musician, a painter, a writer or something of the sort. I just didn’t know how to make a name for myself. Honestly, I feel that I wouldn’t enjoy these art forms as much if they were focused on popularity and making money. Floral gardens

After spending the last few years of High School worrying about how I would make a life for myself I decided to focus on the life I already had and my future would come to me as it was supposed to. I feel that too many people make decisions about the rest of their life in High School when they have little to no life experience and have no idea what they want to do. This is incredibly foolish however there are people who do know what they want to do and pursue it and do wonderfully.College - Genney Darling

One thing I did decide when I was still in school that I wanted to do with my future was blogging. It has become a great creative outlet for me. I don’t know if my life will center around my blog but I do know I want to stay with it. It’s a great way for me to keep my head on my shoulders and organize my thoughts and I love sharing my advice and opinions with you all.

When I came back from Europe I began to think about what i would spend my summer doing and college actually sounded like something I wanted to begin.  After giving it some thought I figured the best thing for me to study and to get into would be marketing. Marketing would be useful with my blog but also my current job as a high school yearbook adviser, it could also prove to give me more responsibilities at the school or wherever I may go. I also decided that i would do college online as it gives me the freedom to make it work with my already busy lifestyle. I also think I just learn better in an online setting than in a classroom setting. I’ll keep you guys updated on my journey. College- Genney Darling

I wanted to write this post because I know that a lot of people feel pressured to go to college right out of High School, and that’s always the best choice. I took two years off to spend time finding a job and seeing where I could be successful in this world. It’s okay to not go to college right away and it’s okay to not go to college at all. Everyone has a different purpose in life and that doesn’t always require college although it is always a good idea to deeply consider furthering your education. * I also wanted to say you can decide your major after starting college you don’t need to know right away, but if you wait til you know  what you want to do I’m sure you’ll feel a better sense of purpose going into it.* College costs so much money and you spend so much time it only makes sense to be sure that it’s what you want to do. Please make sure you are going to college for all the right reasons instead of “Why not?” Floral gardens 2

No matter what you decide to do, make sure you are giving it 100%. Work hard while your young so you can enjoy your life when your older. I want my whole life to be amazing not just my youth.

I took my time deciding and now I’m sure. I want to go into marketing. It really is a passion of mine and it could make me successful here on my blog and in my current line of work.

What’s your dream?

Thank you for reading my blog post. Feel free to browse around my site and read other great posts. Follow my blog for updates on new content. I’m trying to put out lots of content this summer because I’m not sure how busy I will become in the fall.

  1. Amazing post! I totally agree and think that college isn’t for everyone, and it takes time to figure out exactly what you want to do. It’s a journey, but i’m happy you chose to give it a chance and still do the things you love. In the end all that matters is that you’re happy! Thank you for this 🙂

  2. Good luck! I agree it isn’t for everyone, and trade school or internships can be much better for some people. Always remember that you can always change degrees your first couple years of school. I started doing Interior Design, cause I love it, ended up disliking it for a degree, and switched to business which is my passion. Sometimes you don’t know until you try it! ❤
